I came to the nursery through the U3A at Harlaxton. Tim gave a lecture on two subjects, one was on garden chemicals, using ChemPak as examples and explaining what chemical was used for which purpose (fruiting, foliage etc). He also gave a lecture on summer pruning.

We have a horticultural club of around 20 members. would it be possible for us to visit and have a similar talk on the merits of chemicals in the garden during the summer, say perhaps July or June next year?

I would appreciate a reply.

regards

No residence from the past I am afraid but I do have a passionate interest in local history and this seems to have been village that passed me by.
Interested to read any historical info from 13th century onwards.

Rugby, Warwickshire, UK
I just wondered if there were any Seymours left in Castle Bytham. I've tracked my maternal grandmother, Margaret Louisa Seymour (b 1886 London), living in Castle Bytham in 1891 with her grandparents Ambrose and Naomi Seymour. I don't know who her mother or father were but I know Elsie Isabella Seymour was a witness at her wedding in 1907. Her father James was a son of Ambrose & Naomi so I think they were 1st cousins. I'm working on the theory that her mother was Elizabeth Seymour b 1864, the only daughter of Ambrose & Naomi. If there are any Seymour descendants out there I would love to hear from you.

According to the website www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk it is a monument to a horse called The Butcher, belonging to Field Marshall Grosvenor (c.1850). I remember it well from the days when we lived at Stocken Hall Farm (1959 - 1968). There were also a lot of dogs' gravestones near the hall itself. Morkery Wood was a great place for us to play as children with its many roads of tarmac and concrete thanks to the war department who used it as a wartime munitions store, calling it (I think) RAF South Witham.

Following last week's fabulous concert at Little Bytham, I promised to let you know of an event at Swayfield which may be of interest to others in the locality. We have Abi Moore - professional singer/songwriter - performing on Saturday 14th May at the Village Hall at Swayfield. Tickets are £8 each, available from Honest Records 01476 560041 or online at www.wegottickets.com and the evening starts at 7.30pm. Would be really appreciated if you could support the event too. Thanks

I am very impressed with the website, and what I have found out about Little and Castle Bytham. Can anyone join Anything Goes, or is it for local residents only?
Perhaps moving would be the answer!

Like so many village stores around the country, they all bemoan the lack of local supprt. Yet they all seem to fail in the same way. When will they learn that they can't sell empty shelves !!! Put some stock in and you just might sell it.
Being involved with small village shops in the past I can assure you that it works. Nobody will use a shop that only has a few lines of junk in it and some over priced "local" produce. Talk to the suppliers, surely with no huge delivery costs they can do you a better deal?
In short, stop moaning about falling sales and give the customer something to buy.
