Virgin foils rail fan’s Scotsman dream

A vintage train fan, who hoped to get a terrific view of Flying Scotsman as it travelled from London to York for the first time since its refit, had his moment of magic scuppered.

Ryan Allen was one of the legions who waited along the route to witness the iconic engine as she sped northwards.

Ninth earthquake recorded in Rutland

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 has been recorded in a county hit by a series of tremors, the British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed.

The epicentre was near the town of Oakham in Rutland, in the East Midlands, at 22:40 BST on Tuesday.

Reg Burrell tweeted that he felt it in Castle Bytham, a village in Lincolnshire.

Wind a factor in light aircraft bungalow crash, AAIB report finds

A pilot who smashed a light aircraft into a bungalow had been trying to abort a landing because of a sudden change in the wind, a report has found.

The 73-year-old suffered a serious back injury in the accident near Castle Bytham, Lincolnshire, in November.

Waltham transmitter work prompts TV retune alert

Waltham transmitter mastSeveral transmitters, centred on Waltham near Melton Mowbray, will be switched off from midnight on 29 May.

Affected householders will need to retune their Freeview boxes to restore services.

The work is being done to free up more airwave space for the 4G mobile phone service.

Castle Bytham arson attack couple return home

A couple whose house was wrecked by a series of firebombs have returned to their Lincolnshire home a year after the attacks.

Detectives are still puzzled as to why Peter and Sylvia Cox were targeted but the couple insist they are coping with the trauma.
