Ludlam heads bunch sprint for third place at Castle Bytham

A trio of Witham Wheelers made the short journey to Castle Bytham to take part in the latest EMRRL series race promoted by Bourne Wheelers over five laps of a 10-mile circuit on Sunday.

In the soaring heat, the pace was high from the start, with many of the 60-strong field trying to get a breakaway going.

Volunteers at The Spinney near Little Bytham chosen to champion national project

Climbing trees, building dens and running around in the mud are innocent thrills that evoke childhood memories in most people.

And its these activities, along with a wish to get closer to nature, that has encouraged a team of dedicated volunteers to create a woodland paradise known as The Spinney, near Little Bytham.

A vintage train fan, who hoped to get a terrific view of Flying Scotsman as it travelled from London to York for the first time since its refit, had his moment of magic scuppered.
