Just to remind everyone to watch “Great British Railway Journeys” this coming Friday (30th January 2015) on BBC 2/HD at 6:30pm.

“Michael Portillo begins in Oakham, where he learns of a noble tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. Following in the footsteps of peers over the centuries, he determines to take part. Heading east to Stamford, Michael discovers why the town is such an attractive location for period dramas and takes part in a Victorian melodrama. A ghoulish scene awaits in Peterborough as Michael visits a Victorian operating theatre where railwaymen were treated. Michael’s last stop on this final journey is Christ’s College at Cambridge University, where he learns about the student days of the father of evolution, Charles Darwin.”

Castle Bytham light aircraft bungalow crash investigated

An investigation into how a small plane narrowly avoided two men and then struck a bungalow on a farm in Lincolnshire is continuing.

The crash happened outside Castle Bytham, south of Grantham, on Wednesday afternoon.

Pilot, 73, escapes with cuts and bruises

A 73-year-old man has miraculously escaped with cuts and bruises after his light aircraft crashed through the roof of a bungalow in Lincolnshire.

The pilot of the small aeroplane had to be freed from the wreckage by emergency crews after his aircraft came down on the farm building outside Castle Bytham, south of Grantham, just after 2pm.

Crash drivers call for better signs at Ryhall junction

Two drivers involved in a collision on the B1176 near Ryhall are calling for fresh warning signs to be installed on the approach to a crossroads before an accident “kills someone”.

With warning signs on the road worn out and signs on the side of the road obscured by overgrown branches, they say drivers do not get sufficient warning of the approaching crossroads which is in a dip.

Freeview Retune Day : 03-Sep-2014

FreeviewNews and children’s channels will be moving places on Freeview on Wednesday 3rd September 2014, as plans to extend the range of channel numbers reserved for general entertainment channels, are put in to place.

The BBC Red Button service that is now on channel 301 will move to channel 601 on that date as well, as part of a move to increase the number of channels available on YouView, which shares the Freeview channel numbering system.

Six-year-old twins from Castle Bytham to cycle six miles for charity

Proving that you’re never too young to start fundraising, a pair of six-year-old twins have signed up to take part in a six-mile bike ride at Rutland Water in aid of Diabetes UK.

Ben and Gracie Stevenson from Castle Bytham will be cycling in the charity’s Big Bike Ride on June 29, alongside their mum Julia Miner.
