Holywell Verge Litter

From the letters page of the Glenside News (December 2010) …

As Wayside Warden on three of the important verges in Holywell, I regularly collect the rubbish littered on them.

I have spent hours recently picking up a large amount of folded computer paper littering the verges from Holywell to Vale Farm crossroads.  It is a soul destroying job and makes me very angry that such little consideration is given to the beautiful areas in which we live.

If this is a minor throwing paper from a car window – then adults should have more influence.  If it is an adult, then words fail me. There is enough fast food litter to cope with besides this tedious addition – for the second year in succession!

Book for Burns

From Sue Blunt …

Apologies in advance, we may not have even got Christmas out of the way yet, but we d like you to cast your minds forward to February, Saturday the 5th to be precise.
That’s the date to put in next year s diary for Castle Bytham’s biennial Burns Night Celebration.  And in the tradition of those that have gone before it, a great night out is guaranteed. Bodgers Mate will again be providing the musical entertainment and there ll be some special guest spots as well, plus a suitably Scottish-themed sing-along.

The reason for such early warning is that this event gets booked up very quickly  – in 2009 it was sold out nearly a month before the big day, to the consternation of many potential party-goers.  To avoid suffering a similar disappointment we suggest you get your tickets asap –  they are due to go on sale (priced at £14 each including a hearty supper) on December 1st and they ll be available from the Castle Bytham Village Stores, or you can ring (01780) 410957.  If you are planning to bring a party of up to ten it’s even more crucial that you book early to secure your own table.
