The Queens Coronation : 2 June 1953

Queens Diamond Jubilee Emblem

Ian Miller, the Editor of the Glenside News is hoping for help in compiling a piece for the magazine about the Queen’s Coronation on 2 June 1953.  He asks …

Does anybody have any memories/reminisces of the day? Ideally related to the Glenside parishes but not exclusively. Also what were the villages like then. Shops, pubs, people, vicars, doctors etc

Please contact Ian with any offers of assistance …

Celebration of Our Community

From the Rev’d Sue Evans …

Celebrate the Community Spirit of Castle Bytham Our Parish Church of St. James has been at the heart of Castle Bytham for nearly a thousand years, as a place for the community to gather to mark life events and important village celebrations.

At St. James – tide this year, we would like to invite all who live in the village to join in a `Celebration of our Community`, where we can give thanks for all the groups and activities that bring our village together and help us to enjoy belonging to such a special place.

The planning team would love to hear from anyone with ideas and suggestions of content for the celebration – music, displays, poetry.

Winter Warmer Christmas Walk 2011

If you are interested in a walk after the Christmas holiday to walk off some of that turkey then head along to the Willoughby Arms at 11am on Tuesday 27 December.

The  1 1/2 hour walk will take in the beautiful local countryside and bring dogs, kids, mums and dads back to the pub for lunch and a few drinks.

All are welcome – just turn up on the day.

Come Carolling with Us

The Castle Bytham Carollers will be embarking on their annual tour of the village on Monday, December 12th, to raise much-needed funds for St James’ Church and in particular help towards the cost of repairing the roof.

The lantern-lit procession will be joined by Santa, and we’re hoping to top last year’s effort when an amazing £330 was collected from exceedingly generous villagers.

We want to make this a great family occasion, so please join us for a sing-song and bring your young ones with you. Carol sheets are provided and don’t worry if you wouldn’t pass the auditions for The X Factor – everyone is welcome. Feel free to bring your own lantern, or perhaps even a musical instrument.

To get the evening off to a good start, Charlotte and Eamonn at The Castle are kindly providing sherry and mince pies at 6pm for all those taking part.

We aim to get round as much of the village as we can in a couple of hours, and this year we are intending to cover the Holywell Road/Regal Gardens/Bytham Heights/Clipsham Road area, so keep an ear out for us, or why not come and join us.
