George Henry Hall
1915 – 1995
George (Podge) was born in Little Bytham, the second eldest in a family of five sons and three daughters. Apart from a spell during the second World War, he lived in Little Bytham, then Creeton until the last few years of his life, which he spent with his wife Annie in Westminster Nursing Home in Bourne.
On leaving school at the age of 14 George worked at Little Bytham Brickworks, later at Castle Bytham Limestone Quarry.
George was a keen sportsman, playing in the local football and cricket teams, which he helped to organise.
After the war George went to work on the railway until his retirement in 1969. Then he worked part-time at Rasell’s Nursery while caring for his own garden and allotment. He enjoyed entering the local horticultural shows, where he won many prizes and trophies with his superb vegetables. We can still picture George riding his bicycle, with his wooden box on his back.
A man of many interests – we miss him.
